FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is coaching and how is it valuable?

Coaching is a solution-focused process that will help you clarify what you want and determine the steps you need to take to make it happen. It is about listening and responding to you rather than advising or “fixing” you.  It is about asking powerful questions and then supporting your vision instead of creating the vision for you. It provides a safe place where you can be seen and supported as worthy and deserving, allowing you to come to your own conclusions, resulting in a bigger impact and more profound energy shift. Coaching is not just talk; it is about strategy, planning and implementation, and taking concrete measurable action.

Coaching is about getting to the source of what is holding you back and keeping you stuck. It is not so much about the story of what has happened to you in the past, or your excuses, but rather uncovering the truth of who your really are and then you owning your greatness and through deliberate and intentional choice stepping into the destiny you were created for.

What is the difference between coaching and counseling or therapy?

Coaching is very present and future focused, leaving the past behind. It is a client driven, collaborative relationship that does not so much give advice as use various techniques to facilitate the process of an individual finding the best path for themselves. Coaching does not provide front-line support for individuals suffering from chronic depression, anxiety, neurosis or addictions.  These individuals should be referred to Therapists who are experts in medical and behavioral sciences and are trained to treat diagnosable conditions.  Life coaching is a service that compliments other forms of therapy but is unique in its approach.

Who are your clients?

Coaching clients are well individuals who have generally accepted their past and are prepared to focus on their present and future. They may have a feeling of discontent combined with an underlying feeling that they were meant for something more than what they are currently experiencing; they may be going through some kind of life transition; they may be searching for their life purpose; they may have found themselves at a crossroads in their life and are looking for clarity and direction; they may know what they want but are feeling stuck and under motivated to make it happen. Coaching clients are bold and courageous individuals who are willing to show up with an open mind and a willing spirit.

Is coaching appropriate for me?

If you sincerely want a change and are ready and prepared to take steps to achieve it, then you will benefit from having a coach. A willingness to look at yourself and your life situation honestly is absolutely essential.  Any hiding or pretending tactics are entirely counter productive. If you are looking for a place to simply vent about your past or your current circumstance then it may not be a good investment for you.

What is a Discover Session?

A Discovery Session is a 20 - 30 minute complimentary session that may be booked before the purchase of a coaching package.  It provides an opportunity for the client to elaborate on what they are looking for in a coaching experience and what they would hope to achieve. It also provides an opportunity for them to ask questions about the process. The coach is also able to ask questions so that both parties can determine whether there is a fit that will allow the coaching process to proceed most effectively.

How long will I need to work with a coach?

It is somewhat dependent on where in the process you currently are, where you are seeking to go and how quickly you want to get there. Another significant factor is the amount of time and focus you are prepared to invest.  You may be able to achieve the desired results within three months or less.  In many cases you may stay with a coach anywhere from six to eighteen months.  After you reach your initial goals, you may identify other areas you want to work on.  The bottom line is that the coaching relationship continues as long as there is benefit to you.
